PC Antispyware 2010

Does this sound familiar?

“Well I have a program that suddenly appeared on my taskbar and is called “Antivirus 2010”. This program looks just like a familiar Windows message and it is telling me that my PC is infected with hundreds of viruses.  Seems that the only way it will go away is by purchasing the program to clean my PC.”

If this sounds like you or maybe someone you know then welcome to the world of “scareware”. This Antivirus 2010 also has other flavors called XP Antivirus 2010, Vista Antivirus 2010, Windows Antivirus 2010 and more. What is important is for you (the user) to learn how to recognize real alerts from your own antivirus from something fake that is in reality a virus itself.  This type of virus is usually installed during a Flash update or an infected video codec. It also has a self protection mode which in turn makes it hard to remove and it will also block most or all of your legitimate software including your antivirus. Furthermore, it will hijack your browser by displaying intimidating warnings every time you visit a website.

The important point is NOT to pay any money as the PC will just remain the same or worst. However, if you made the mistake of paying, dispute the charges with your credit card company and replace the credit card in question right away.
